A great way to make hard wood floors really shine is to use a floor buffer. These machines can be used to clean, polish, and strip hardwood floors. A floor buffer can be slightly challenging to use. However, once the basics are learned, the machine can really help in rejuvenating your hard wood floors.
One of the first steps when leaning to operate a buffer is to know which type to work with. Buffers typically come in two sizes, large and small. Smaller machines are generally used for painting and waxing floors. It is also important to know which type of pad to use. There are two types of pad, cutting pads and finishing pads. Cutting pads are little more difficult to work with because they can leave marks on flooring but they are much faster. Polishing pads are used for finishing. Experts recommend using a lamb’s wool material, however the pads for buffers come in several materials.
Before getting started perform a safety check on your home floor buffer. Make sure the electrical chord is untangled and intact. Wear safety goggles when using a buffer as well. Check to see that you are using a clean pad. Using one with debris left on it can damage your floors. Also, be sure your work area is clean and all objects are removed from your path before starting.
To get started, plug in the buffer, lift the base and turn it on. Get a feel on how the buffer moves. Keep a firm grip of the unit, as it can get away from you easily. Once you are comfortable with the feel of the machine, and how it moves, spray some polish evenly on the floor. You should start buffing from the back and end in the front, near the entrance. Use slow and sweeping motions as you buff. Because buffers rotate clockwise, you should also buff from left to right.
While working on your project, also check the pad periodically to ensure that the pad is still clean. Change out any pads that are have become filled with debris of clogged with polish. Always unplug the machine while doing this.
When you are finished, remove the brushes and pads from the buffer. Leaving them on the floor buffer could possibly damage the equipment.

To give your room a stylish and yet a very practical and easy to maintain finish the easiest options is to use a home floor buffer.
The most important factor, to give you the very best result, is in the preparation.
Firstly ensure there are no loose nails and that all secured nails are flat against the surface.
You then need to clean and strip the entire area using a chemical stripper which is easily obtained from many stores.
This will make sure that all traces of dirt, and any previous applications of wax, are removed which will ensure you have an even and clean finish once the whole job has been completed.
To do this insert a stripping pad to the machine. You must make sure it is placed exactly as directed in the instructions and centered under the rotating mechanism. Next, raise the wheels and ensure that they are locked in position which will then allow the pads to make contact with the floor.
Home floor buffers are designed to do the work for you so you can let the buffer take most of the strain from the job. You will also quickly learn how to control direction of the buffer with simple wrist movements.
Gently tilting the machine in either a right or a left direction will make it glide easily and gently along the pathway you want.
Once you have completed the stripping phase you must allow the floor to dry out and also remove any loose dirt. A quick sweep of the floor is all that is needed.
Meanwhile you can remove the stripping pads and add the polisher pads. Generally it is a good idea to choose the same starting point you did for the stripping and gently guide the buffer in sweeps from side to side, eventually covering the whole area.
You may need to occasionally change the polishing pads to gain maximum effect.
Once you have completed the whole floor area the home floor buffer is easy to store. You simply coil the extension cords and secure them to the handle. Remove the old pad and dispose of it carefully, before storing in a cupboard or garage.
